Today, I attended a workshop from Drew Gardner hosted by Servix at the Fotolocus Studio. I’m a big fan of his work because this actually the type of photography I want to evolve to.

Off course there was a lot of chit chat about lights – setups – location – assistants – materials – … But the thing that was most important to me was what he mentioned in the beginning. The work and great assignments don’t come looking for you, you have to create work that enables others to see that you are capable of the job. period.
So going outside in your spare time to make photo’s that represent your way of working, vision, composition, … is really important. That is what represents you and your work!

I couldn’t agree more, over the past years I ‘ve spent a serious amount of my spare time in trying out new idea’s, testing setups, … sometimes successful, sometimes less … Even when the results weren’t always up to my expectations I still got satisfaction in being occupied with my passion: creating photos.

Off course it was fantastic to see how this down-to-earth guy created this magnificent shots, but it was even greater to feel the passion … I really felt motivated and inspired by that part of the workshop!
